It's about progression: The trainee who never adds weight to the bar will never increase the difficulty on bodyweight movements, either. If one isn't interested in gaining a lot of muscular mass, exercise choice becomes a matter of personal preference. However, if contractile-muscular weight gain, (& the strength that comes with it), is a goal, one must lift heavy on the 'big' lifts, especially the barbell squat.

I agree it should be used with other exercise methods

Yep... it's all about making the training functional.

It is true that bodyweight exercises can be more productive than 'modern' weight training due to the fact that 90% of the people in the average commercial gym are a complete train wreck. Our conception of what weight training consists of is so out of whack it's laughable. The TRX is a good system though, I use it myself in addition to weights and kettlebells.

Bodyweight exercises can be more productive than weight training if done correctly. Good work! |
